Glen Pleasant Scholarship Award
Each year the Northwest Section of the IMSA offers a cash scholarship to the children or grandchildren of our current members. This scholarship was established by the family of Glen Pleasant, who was a Signal Supervisor for the City of Yakima and a member of this section for many years.
Glen served as the Section Program Chairman in 1973-75. He was elected president of the Section in 1974-75, and served as Secretary/Treasurer in 1978-81 and again in 1983-85. He was active in the NW Section for 25 years, hosting several conferences in Yakima, and was the first recipient of the Larry Keyser Achievement Award for advancing education, leadership, and membership. After Glen retired, he remained active in the Section, going to conferences and attending meetings. Glen passed on in 1993 and his family generously established this scholarship award in his name to honor his great commitment to the IMSA and the NW Section in particular.
It has been the Sections’ intent each year to help a student pay for some of the extra costs associated with going to college or technical school. The selection process starts with soliciting applications from our active member base. Each applicant fills out an application and submits it, along with other requirements, to the Scholarship Chairman. The Chair will form a temporary committee to do a blind evaluation on the submitted applications. The applicant ranked first will be awarded the scholarship.
Glen Pleasant’s family believes in continuing education and so does the NW Section. We encourage all eligible applicants to apply.

The winner of the 2010 Glen Pleasant Scholarship Award is Danielle Barr. She provided a great application detailing her scholastic history as well as her generous community service. The NW Section is proud to award her $750 toward her next educational endeavor.
We had a great turn-out for this year’s award. There were 10 valid applications from across our Section, from Alaska to Montana and Oregon. All were working hard to further their education and better their community. The Section thanks everyone who applied and encourages them to continue their path to their educational goals.
